A small shop with an enormous reputation for world music. Domino Sound is the place to go if you're hunting Fela Kuti, cumbia, West African music, Cajun, and global sounds you simply won't find elsewhere. The staff are passionate and deeply knowledgeable, especially about coastal Colombian and Afrobeat music. A true specialist shop and a genuine treasure for adventurous listeners.
Euclid Records New Orleans

The Bywater outpost of the beloved St. Louis original, Euclid is consistently rated among the very best record shops in the city, and for good reason. The shop stocks new and used vinyl with an emphasis on jazz, rock, and anything funky and rare. It's located near the scenic "Rusty Rainbow" pedestrian bridge, making it a great anchor for an afternoon in the Bywater. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the vibe is quintessentially New Orleans: effortlessly cool.

Louisiana Music Factory

Right in the heart of Frenchmen Street, this shop is arguably the best place in the city to find music by New Orleans artists. Owner Barry has curated a deep selection of Louisiana-specific music: jazz, blues, Cajun, zydeco, R&B, funk, and second-line brass band. Affiliated with the nearby New Orleans Jazz Museum, the shop also carries books, posters, and CDs.
Mushroom New Orleans

Open until midnight daily. The Mushroom has been serving the Uptown/Tulane crowd for decades as a hybrid record shop, head shop, and counter-culture emporium. Used vinyl and CDs sit alongside posters, stickers, patches, piercing jewelry, and vaporizers. The music selection spans rock, jazz, blues, and out-of-print rarities, with a laid-back atmosphere that feels straight out of the '70s.

A smaller, eclectic shop on lower Magazine Street with a curated selection of vinyl, a resident DJ who spins while you browse, and knowledgeable staff willing to go the extra mile. The selection leans toward Cajun, Louisiana roots, and general eclecticism, with some cool knick-knacks and gifts mixed in.

Set in a beautifully restored historic building, this shop blends vinyl, books, and old Hollywood memorabilia into a warm, carefully curated space. Owner Louis Maistros is a noted New Orleans author and veteran French Quarter record shop operator, and the place reflects that experience. The staff treat record-buying with the care of a sommelier. Perhaps most uniquely, the shop hosts live music followed by an open mic nearly every week, making it a genuine community gathering spot.
Peaches Records

Peaches is a cultural institution and a direct descendant of the legendary Peaches Records & Tapes chain that has been a fixture of the city since the 1970s. The store is run by Mama Peaches and her son, who are known for their warmth and encyclopedic music knowledge. The inventory spans vinyl, CDs, and cassettes across virtually every genre, plus art, memorabilia, and local music artifacts. It doubles as a community hub, hosting local artists and in-store performances.
Sisters in Christ Records

One of the highest-rated stores in New Orleans and a genuine standout. Sisters in Christ specializes in punk, goth, industrial, and underground music — the kind of place where you'll find rare pressings that don't exist anywhere else in town. Alongside the vinyl, the shop carries an impressive selection of comics, graphic novels, VHS tapes, and books, all in great condition and at fair prices. A must for anyone into the alternative and underground music scenes.
